"As a Green Beret, I have had the opportunity to train at some first rate martial art schools with some impressive instructors, and Scot and Glen at Revolution Self Defense are among the best. They are both very skilled guys, but more importantly, they are excellent teachers. Whether you are an MMA competitor or someone looking to improve their conditioning and self defense skills, this is the place to be. Everyone is welcome, and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, but intense. If you're serious about training, get there and train there. Whenever I'm in town, I look forward to working with Scot, Glen and the great students at Revolution. You should be there, too."

Adult's MMA Training

As a member of Revolution Self Defense I can testify to how great of a teacher and friend Scot is. I am currently involved in the core adult training and the fighter competition training. No matter how large of a class there may be, Scot is great at paying individual attention to each student. Every class I go to I learn something new which helps me in my training. Scot is a very caring instructor who helps build confidence while also converting weaknesses into strengths. Revolution Self Defense is a great place to train for a very affordable price. I would recommend it to anyone.

Get Ready to feel more confident

Picture
I just attended one of Revolution Self Defenses Womens Self-Defense courses and feel so much more confident in my own abilities. I do not know if you have ever had nightmares about being helpless to someone who is attacking you, but I have! I can honestly say that taking this course helped put my mind at ease that if I were approached by an attacker I could now do something useful in my defense, rather than freezing without the ability to yell loud enough (like the situations I have found myself most fearful of). Great class! Everyone was able to do the moves taught and I would recommend this course to any women regardless of her age or physical ability!

I have been training with Scot for 8 months now. I have been pushed physically harder than I have ever imagined while having fun and learning valuable self defense skills that can be applied both in the studio and in real life situations. Scot has a great knowledge of many martial arts styles. He gives students individual attention within a group practice. Most importantly, as a woman I feel more confident in the ability to protect myself now.

Achieving Fitness Goals

I hadn’t worked out in years and was wanting to drop a bunch of weight. Joining a gym again, one that inevitably I wouldn't go to because I'd get bored with it, wasn't promising. I needed something fun, motivating and were I would learn new things. I found Revolutions Self Defense online and sent an email. Very quickly I got a response from Scot. I joined Revolution Self Defense's Core Class and have since lost 20 lbs, and I am still losing! I feel confident, strong, and empowered and that's not just from the weight loss. Thank you Revolution Self Defense!

When I was 13 years old my parents took me to a local Karate school for some lessons. Their goal was to provide me with some confidence and an outlet to help me learn to control my temper. Luckily the school that we choose was of the highest quality with a great program and excellent instructors. Ever since that day, the martial arts have been my passion. By enrolling me in the program at American Karate Studio in Wilmington Delaware I went from a mediocre student with little to no confidence to a university student who was getting straight A's each semester.  Many of the courses that I took while in college required me to make presentations in front of large groups, if it were not for my martial arts experience I doubt that I would have been able to do it.

As I got older I began to investigate other arts to help build my overall skills as a martial artist. At the time, MMA was relatively unknown outside the martial arts community but it was something that I was interested in. I sought out grappling arts to help supplement my skills as a stand up fighter. I also wanted to test my stand up skills and that lead me to compete as an amateur in Muay Thai kickboxing. Due to a former career that required me moving every couple of years I got the opportunity to train at a number of different gyms and meet a lot of great people.

I decided to create Revolution Self Defense to further indulge my passion for the martial arts and coaching. I also have a goal to provide others the opportunities that the martial arts have given me.  To achieve that goal I strive to emulate the atmosphere and quality of the great places I have had the pleasure to train at while avoiding the pitfalls I have seen at other schools.

I began my martial arts training in England at 10 years of age, enrolling in a kids' Judo class taught by the British Army. From that point on, I was pretty much hooked for life. During my school years, I studied Shotokan Karate and European Fencing. Then at university in Scotland, I was exposed to the art of Iwama Ryu Aikido, and became fascinated with the study of traditional Japanese military arts (or Bujitsu), and with Budo - the honor-code and philosophy of the samurai warrior.

So in 2000, after four years' intensive study in Scotland, I moved to Japan, and spent two years there studying Aikido and Japanese language and culture. Upon arrival, I entered the world-renowned Iwama Aiki Dojo in Ibaraki prefecture, where the Founder of Aikido (O-Sensei Ueshiba Morihei) perfected his style. Initially, I trained under his direct disciple - the late, great Morihiro Saito Sensei - and later under Hitohiro Saito Sensei and Hiroshi Fukuda Sensei. By 2002, I had received my black belt and instructor grading, and moved back to London to teach and study further.

For the next 5 years, I worked, studied, and taught Aikido in London. There, the concentration of high-quality instructors - together with my continuing search for deeper understanding - led to an exploration of many more martial arts styles, including the Chinese internal arts of Tai Chi and Ba Gua, and the fast-paced knife-and-stick of Filipino Eskrima. And it was in London that I first experienced the mysterious and (at that time) relatively unknown Russian martial art of Systema.

In all my years of training, I had never seen anything like it. I was humbled by its power, its simplicity, and its capacity for creating incredible physical and psychological strength. I dedicated myself anew to learning all I could about Systema, and was privileged to earn my instructor certification under Master Vladimir Vasiliev in 2007 followed by an upgrade to Instructor in 2010.

Today, I am proud to be teaching at Revolution Self Defense, and I look forward to welcoming new students to the path of Systema training.
