Our school continues to grow because more and more people want to be a part of the great things that are happening at Revolution Self Defense. We have to decided to add two more Kids Karate classes to the schedule. Please visit our schedule page to see the new times!

This month we started our first Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and they have been a huge success. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been proven time and again as one of the most effective martial arts in the world. In fact, all serious MMA fighters need to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to be competitive in the sport.

With the addition of Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to our schedule, parents can be sure that not only are their kids learning strong character traits at Revolution Self Defense, but also the best self defense skills! Our Kids Karate classes teach effective self defense when standing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu covers all aspects of ground fighting. Many schools claim to teach effective self defense to kids, but Revolution Self Defense is the only school in Clayton teaching techniques that have been proven to work.

The Timberjack Challenge,, held on October 1st in Selma, was a local mud run race benefiting the Me Fine Foundation. The race was a 5k course with 30 grueling obstacles and teams were judged on the amount of time it took for all four members to finish the course. Being a charity event, the Revolution Team showed up just to have a good time and support a great cause. However, training at Revolution Self Defense has it's benefits because our team of Scot, Gustavo, Omar and Sean came in 5th place out of 80 teams! Not bad.

We are greatly looking forward to next years event, for more information please visit www.timberjackchallenge.com

Once again our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fight team competed in the Grapplemania event held by US Grappling. We had 5 competitors enter the event and came home with 6 medals. All of our students fought competitively while upholding the values of sportsmanship and honor that we value at Revolution Self Defense. Congratulations to all of our fight team competitors!

On Friday, June 1oth, the Revolution Self Defense fight team entered a Muay Thai bout in New York City. The Friday Night Fights event has been gaining steam in NYC for the past few years and this event was the third consecutive sold out show and the first that could possibly be televised.

In an exciting three round battle, the Revolution Self Defense fighter emerged as the victor via unanimous decision. Our fighter executed his game plan perfectly by using lateral footwork coupled with rapid fire hand combinations ending with round kicks. His opponent, fighting in his home town, was game and utilized a counter fighting strategy. He showed good timing and striking power but was unable to string together any combinations due to our fighters footwork and pressure fighting tactics.

The crowd and fans loved the fight and could be heard screaming every time either fighter landed a strong blow. In the end the judges scored the fight as follows: 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 all for the fighter from Revolution Self Defense.

Everyone who has trained with our fighter can share in this victory. Holding focus mitts, thai pads and other training time all helped prepare us for this event. A very special thanks goes out to Coach Kiley and our out of town crew from D.C. who also were a big part of our training camp!
